What is glucomannan?
Glucomannan is a soluble fiber obtained from the root of the konjac plant. Konjac is grown in China and Japan, where it has been consumed over 2000 years.

What is konjac flour?
Konjac flour is obtained from the tubers of the Amorphophallus species, which grows mainly in China and Japan. The primary component is glucomannan, a soluble fiber of glucose and mannose subunits.

What are the health benefits?
As a soluble fiber, konjac has been shown in clinical studies to act beneficially on blood sugar, cholesterol and other risk factors associated with heart disease. In addition, konjac flour has a high water holding capacity, which may provide a feeling of satiety and aid in weight loss.

What is glucomannan’s role in a healthy diet?
Glucomannan is a high concentration of soluble fiber from a natural source. Complex carbohydrates such as soluble fiber has been shown to act on blood sugar, blood cholesterol and appetite. When products high in soluble fiber are taken, only a small rise in blood sugar results. Therefore, taking such products may improve blood sugar control and help reduce the body’s need for insulin. This is beneficial for diabetics and those at risk of heart disease. People following a high fiber diet tend to eat fewer calories because fiber is low in calories. Also, such diets provide more bulk and may provide a feeling of fullness when fewer calories are eaten.
